ABOUT US



Balloons for Luv Organization, a registered nonprofit charity, is a one -of -a -kind grassroots effort launched by the daughter of Latifa Sayed, who bravely fought but lost her battle with cancer.


Inspired by her mother's incredible compassion for people, Barbara Sayed was determined to somehow perpetuate her mothers great generosity of spirit to those suffering with serious illnesses and enduring painful and often frightening treatments. 'Having gone through the suffering of cancer, I know my mother would have had special compassion for the youngest patients says Barbara.



Latifa Sayed was an amazing woman with a beautiful heart





She instilled in Barbara great values, morals, and a compassionate heart. As a little girl she watched her mother touch many lives through random acts of kindness. When visiting family or friends she would always bring a little treat for each child in the home. “While she is not here physically her love and acts of kindness live on through Balloons for Luv Organization lifting children’s spirits one balloon at a time” says Barbara.



How it Works





Each of the Balloons for Luv stations is stocked with colorful Mylar balloons, helium and other supplies so that nurses, doctors and caregivers can freely deliver the cheerful Mylar balloons to the children. Caregivers may choose from Balloons for Luv messages such as "You Did It!" or "Happy Birthday" or "You're Number 1!" and more.


According to Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland's Director of Volunteers and Guest Relations Susan Martinez, Balloons for Luv has had an overwhelming response from both patients and their families.



Celebrating children





Susan said, "Here at Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland, we never lose sight of the fact that we are treating children who not only need great medical care but their emotional needs require attention as well. With Balloons for Luv, we are able to celebrate important milestones in the children's lives like birthdays or holidays. That is so important to the children, to their childhood."


With Balloons for Luv they are also able to celebrate important medical milestones, delivering balloons to patients facing crucial surgeries or other procedures. Barbara takes great care to include special messages in Spanish for Spanish-speaking patients, as well as balloons with special messages that appeal to teens.
